What do I mean by the phrase “habits of mind of a physicist?”   It is the way a physicist looks at the universe.  It is the thought process that a physicist brings to an intriguing problem.   It is a physicist’s bag of tricks – their survival kit.   What would you find in the kit?   Knowledge of physical laws and mathematics are fundamental.   Every physicist needs those in the bag.    But physicists bring more than knowledge to bear against impossibly complex problems.  They bring insight, inspiration, curiosity and passion.  These habits of mind serve a physicist well even in careers as diverse as medicine, oil exploration or Wall Street.     Continue Reading Habits of Mind of a Physicist…
